Roy Strassberg’s jars are larger forms with artful, complex surfaces. They are functional but their strength and beauty are more valued than pure function. Stoneware clay thrown and then coil built to add height, the forms are covered completely or partially with porcelain slip, drawn with maplike or blueprint shapes, filled with black porcelain slip and black underglaze, and fired in reduction kiln to Cone 10-11 with either clear or celadon glaze over surface.
